GHHS Competes for Springboard Project
Gig Harbor High School is among top schools in the country that are being considered for a Springboard curriculum demonstration project. College Board, a nonprofit organization that offers programs such as advance placement classes, will select 50 schools nationwide for the project. Schools selected for the honor will receive $10,000 grants for professional development, school improvement and sharing best practices. "Being a demonstration school is beneficial because it holds us all (teachers, students, community) to a higher standard," said Gig Harbor High teacher Russell D'Card. "It also allows us the opportunity to be recognized for the good work students and teachers are doing, and to share that with other schools and districts." Here is Russell working with students on their persuasive speech assignment. Last Updated (Friday, 04 May 2012 14:08) JoAnn Moore 2012 National Geographic Gilbert M. Grosvenor Teacher Fellows

Gig Harbor High School Counselor Dave Burmark was recently recognized as Tacoma Community College's 2012 Distinguished Alumnus. Dave was honored at a dinner on the TCC campus on May 23, 2012 for his positive impact on student lives in his 23 years as a high school counselor. He works with students from the time they enter high school until they graduate. He helps students explore career options and guides them toward an understanding of how they must prepare. He also tries to help students realize they'll likely have more than one job or career ahead of them. "Nobody has a (single) job for 30 years any more," he said. He encourages college bound students to apply to a variety of schools and helps them in their search for scholarship dollars. Congratulations to Dave on an outstanding career and this very deserved recognition! Last Updated (Monday, 07 May 2012 09:19) Attention SeniorsSenior and Parents of Seniors!
